Old Mill of Anne Arundel County, ranked 11th in the DigitalSports-Maryland State Wrestling Association Top 20, has advanced seven wrestlers into Saturday's semifinals of the Class 4A-3A East Regional Tournament and holds a 44-to-31.5 points lead over third-ranked Stephen Decatur of Worcester County.
Ron Vaughters (112), Michael Sillaman (145), Chase Russell (160), Ryan Hertz (171), state champ Ethan Brown (189), Nigel Pierce (215) and Aaron Hawkins (285) are the ones who have moved forward for the Patriots, whose 119-pound Willie Pumphrey was pinned by Centennial's Howard County champ Dan LeRoy.
Moving forward for the Seahawks were Devin Bataille (103), Sean McGarry (125), Danny Banks (130), fourth-place state finishre Skylar Snead (135) and state champ Danny Miller (189), with Stephen Decatur's Vinny Artrip (119) and Bernie McGarry (140) losing, 13-4, to Bel Air's Steve Cross and, 1-0, to Broadneck's Stephen Woody, respectively.
Also, the Seahawks' Corey Tobias (112) was pinned by Reservoir's Howard County runner-up, Ben O'Keefe.
Third-place Atholton of Howard County has advanced into the semifinals, county champ Kevin Beck (103), county runner-up Kyle Werner (145) and county champs Malcolm Stennett (189), Mike Massarelli (215) and Brian nance.
Massarelli decked Meade's Muanza Walamulumba, who entered at 21-3, in only 47 seconds.
Two-time state champs Maurice Fleming (140) and Bubby Graham (160) of Northeast and Annapolis, respectively, have moved forward, with Graham earning his 94th consecutive win.
Severna Park's Zach Shreve (145) remained undefeated, and state runner-up teammate Billy Nichols (215) also advanced.
