Dean Albany's Maryland Orioles snapped a two-game losing streak at Bachman Field, on Saturday, defeating the Maryland Redbirds 9-0 behind Baltimore Oriole draftee Oliver Drake. The big right-hander threw six shut-out innings to get the win. The O's moved back into a tie with the Bethesda Big Train with the win.
The O's were led at the plate by Tyler Massey, who was 3-for-5 and scored twice.
Right-fielder Steven Bumbry (
Dulaney) and center-fielder Jeff Rowland each had two hits. Left-fielder Chase Burnette had a RBI single in the second and drove in another run with a double in the fourth.
Brad Miller (
Mount St. Joseph) started for the Redbirds. He went five innings and took the loss. Coach Pat Nagle's club fell to 5-7 in the league. The Orioles improved to 9-3.
Nick Wojnowski (
Calvert Hall) leads Nagle's club with a .375 batting avearge.
"We're back on track," said Albany. "One of our top pitchers, Kevin Brady, was with Team Maryland last week in Oklahoma. When he returns that wll help a lot."
Brady (
Gaithersburg) was the Gatorade Maryland State High School Baseball Player of the Year and he, along with Drake, was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles earlier this month.
