Glenelg Country School is proud to acknowledge that Tom Marechek, varsity boy’s lacrosse coach, has been inducted into the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame, class of 2008.
Coach Marechek is one of the most decorated players in the history of lacrosse. He was a four time All-American while attending Syracuse University, earning first team honors in 1990, 1991, 1992 over a span in which the program earned two national championships.
Marechek was a six-time USCLA All-Star. He played for 12 years with the Philadelphia Wings in the National Lacrosse League and he was an eight-time All-Pro. With Philadelphia, Marechek won four championships and retired from the Wings as the league’s third all-time leading scorer with 773 points; 399 goals and 374 assists.
On February 18, 2006, the Wings retired Marechek's No. 42 jersey, making him only the third player in league history to have his jersey number retired. In 2007, Marechek was inducted into the NLL Hall of Fame.
In 2005 Marechek began a seven year career in Major League Lacrosse with the Baltimore Bayhawks and earned All-Star honors on four occasions as well as leading the team to two league championships. Marechek was also a four-time member of the Canadian National Team, and he was named to the ILF All World Team in 1998.
At Glenelg Country School Coach Marechek just completed his 10th season as the boy’s head coach. He has led the Dragons to two Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association C Conference titles in five title-game berths.
In the last two seasons, Marechek’s Dragons have competed in the MIAA B conference and have earned a berth in the playoffs during each of thos years.
Marechek has taught and assisted several players during their pursuit to play lacrosse at the college level. He will be coaching the Under Armour High School All American game on July 12th.
