CLASS 2A-1A SOUTH REGIONAL SEEDS

Glenelg of Howard County has seven wrestlers seeded within the top four of their weight classes, with six No. 1s compared to seven spread out among the top four for Calvert County and Oakland Mills of Howard County entering Friday and Saturday's Class 2A-1A South Regional Tournament to be held at Oakland Mills High.

The top seeds for the Gladiators, ranked fourth in the DigialSports-Maryland State Wrestling Association, are state runners-up Brian Marcoux (125), Danny Bichner (135) and Chris Stinnett (140), as well as third-place state finishers Brendan Conway (119) and Tim Chase (152) and also Zach Gerber (103)

The defending champion Gladiators' former county titlist, Alex Hufnagel (160) is seeded fourth.

For the Cavaliers of Calvert County, who narrowly los to the Gladiators in the Class 2A-1A South Regional duals, Jake Ridgeway (171) is seeded No. 1; Lucas Hronick (135), Pat Berry (152) and Stephen Cannetlla (285) are seeded No. 2; Danny Wilkins (125), Jeff Tolbert (160) and  Danny Brickner (215) are No. 3; and Nathan Jamie (140) is No. 4.

For the host Scorpions, unbeaten two-time county champ Mike Santiago (285), county champ Jovan Saunders (145) and Chris Ealey (160) are No. 1 seeds; Peter Petties (140) is No. 2; Matt Widstrom (189) is No. 3; and county runner-up Thomas Consiglio (135) and Dan Choi (152), No. 4.


For River Hill of Howard County, state champ Scott Mantua (112) and state runner-up Nathan White (130) are seeded No. 1, as are returning regional champion Jae Kim (215) of Marriotts Ridge and Patuxent's Andrew Lloyd (189).

Tournament sleepers could be third-place state finisher Tanner Wrublik (130), a returning regional champion who is seeded seventh, and Surrattsville's Andre Johnson (215), who pinned his way to last week's Prince George's County title.

Marriotts Ridge coach Jason Conley is enthusiastic about his Mustangs' representation, which he called, "Not bad for a third-year team to have nine seeded in the top four, with one first, one second, three third and four who are fourth."

The Mustangs also have two sixth seeds and a pigtail at 171 pounds.
