Saturday night's loss to 135-pound rival Alex Tolbert in the finals of the Class 4A-3A West Regional came a week after Lowy had edged Tolbert in overtime (above) for the Montgomery County title.
Magruder's 135-pounder Alex Tobert increased his series lead to 2-1 opposite host Sherwood's Josh Lowy, avenging a loss of a week ago in the Montgomery County Tournament final to lead his Colonels to Saturday night's Class 4A-3A West Region Tournament title.
Teammates Jordan Tolbert (103) and Helen Maroulis (112) were runners-up, with Maroulis becoming the first female to earn a title-berth in that region, and John Rinaldi (189) and Max Schneiderman (119) were third, and fourth, respectively.
Paint Branch had champions in Danny Lethbridge (112), Steve Miller (140), Tim Stewart (160) and Jake Maddux (189), with the latter handing Walter Johnson's Paul Okeyo his first loss, 3-1, in overtime.
Springbrook's Joseph (125) and Carlo (145) Galeano were also victorious, adding the regional crowns to the county titles they won last weekend.
For Damascus, winner of last weekend's Montgomery County Tournament title, Brian Wittenbeger (171) and Josh Frederick (215) were each winners with Natdjitade Badje of Springbrook and Dake Williams, respectively, being the same wrestlers against whom they earned county titles a week earlier.
Two-time state runner-up Steven Gamble (152) of Sherwood pinned all three opponents, impressively.
Also adding their first regional crowns to the county championships won last week were Rasheim Smith (103) of Blake, Joe Hancher (119) of Walt Whitman and Terrence Stephens (285) of Quince Orchard, the latter of whom is 28-0.
Northwest's state runner-up Sean McCarty (130) was also a winner, improving his school career record wins mark to 142 against only five losses.
