INDIANAPOLIS – Third-ranked Center Grove and No. 5 Zionsville easily won their semifinal matches Oct. 18 at the 42nd Annual IHSAA Boys Tennis Team State Finals to move on to a championship battle Saturday evening at North Central (Indianapolis).

Center Grove tallied wins in both doubles matches and two singles matches against No. 8 Munster to claim its place in the finals, while Zionsville did the same in downing No. 12 Columbus North in the other semi.

Center Grove junior Justin Spicer defeated Munster sophomore Aaditya Shah 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while CG junior Caleb Fellers beat Mustangs junior Zakk Tritsch 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2. The Trojans also got wins by sophomore Cameron Hardin and senior David Schoch at No. 1 doubles (6-2, 7-5 over junior Eli Wilson and senior Austin Wynn) and seniors Alex Moffett and Chris Webb at No. 2 (7-6 (7-4), 6-2 over freshman Ryan Heuer and sophomore Chandler Marcus.

Munster’s lone win came at No. 1 singles, where senior Billy Heuer defeated senior Austin Sansone, 6-4, 6-2.

Zionsville took both doubles matches, with juniors Joe Hammond and Nick Laconi defeating sophomore Chase Harris and senior David Nieters 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 and junior Max Watson and senior Taylor Wong beating junior Brandon Hedrick and sophomore Sean Mahoney 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2. The Eagles’ two singles victories came from junior J.P. Dwyer (7-5, 3-6, 6-2 over senior Robert Nieters at No. 2 and junior Conner Dunn (6-1, 6-4 over senior Caleb Fuller at No. 2).

The Bull Dogs’ only win came at No. 1 singles, where junior Austin Smith got past senior Andrew Kahn 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.
