In the span of five days, Richardson played some of her best golf ever, having placed high in each of her final two tournaments of the fall golfing season.
In the Oct. 9 Baltimore County District Six qualifying round for the state championships, which will be held next week in College Park, Richardson finished in first place ahead of Dulaney's two-time county champion, Carolyn Chandler.

The junior shot an 83, but was a little surprised that was enough to edge Chandler's 84 after having finished three spots behind Chandler at counties.

"Coming in, I didn't think that 83 would be good enough for first place," Richardson said at the time. "I just wanted to make it to the state tournament."

On Saturday, Richardson participated in the inagural girls' golf challenge, sponsored by the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association.

In that event, held at the Forest Park Golf Course in Baltimore,
Richardson finished second after shooting a 79-- all in all an amazing achievement for a girl who finished back in the pack at the county tournament on Sept. 26.

The county tournament was won by Chandler with a 68. Finishing in the second-through-fourth spots behind Chandler in that event were Perry Hall's Amanda Lee, Carver's Gabriella Biondo and Richardson.

The county tournament was played on Gunpowder's 18 hole golf course on a hard and fast surface due to the hot, dry conditions.

Milford Mill's DeVonne Richardson finished fourth, first, and second, respectively, in consecutive tournaments starting on Sept. 26.
