GLENELG COUNTRY SCHOOL GOES UNDEFEATED IN DUAL MEETS

Maeve Ricaurte leads Dragons to victory.

The Glenelg Country School girls cross country team secured an undefeated dual meet season with victories today against Severn and Park School.

Maeve Ricaurte led all finishers in 19:30 over the 3 mile course at Anne Arundel Community College.  She was followed by her teammates in the next two places, Katie O??Dunne and Samantha Matthews.

Finishing 4th for the Dragons and tenth overall, was Camille Hackney.  Maya Munoz rounded out the top five for the team.

This dual meet victory caps a seven day stretch of intense racing for the girls.  After defeating their closest competitor of the year, a previously unbeaten Institute of Notre Dame squad, last Tuesday at home, the Dragons raced in the Meade Autumn Classic at Fort Meade on Friday.

Their sixth place finish at Meade placed them just behind five of the top ten teams in the state and just ahead of 4 more top twenty ranked teams.  It was an impressive race for Glenelg Country School, especially as it was the first time the team had competed at the event.

The top three Dragon finishers placed among to the top 25 overall, with Maeve Ricaurte placing 7th (18:49), Samantha Matthews in 14th (19:30) and Katie O??Dunne placing 21st (19:48).  Rounding out the top five were Emily Peterman (52nd, 20:51) and Kelsey Haist (110th, 22:39).

Next up for the team is the Georgetown Prep Invitational on Saturday, October 20.  It is one of the area??s most prestigious races and will challenge the girls to follow up on their strong performances from both the Meade and Mercersburg Invitationals.  They will race the seeded section at 2:15.
