CO-FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - BRILEIGH PINKNEY KEPT EAGLES SOARING

Brileigh Pinkney was busy in the pool for McDonogh School Sunday. The junior won the IAAM A title in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and was part of the first-place 200 medley and freestyle relay team.
McDonogh School claimed its sixth straight IAAM A Conference swimming championship on Sunday at UMBC, and Brileigh Pinkney had a big say in the outcome.

Pinckney sparked the Eagles as she swam on two winning relays and won individual titles in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100 breaststroke.  It was a total team effort, according to McDonogh Coach Scott Ward, as the Eagles captured first-place in seven of the 11 events.

Rebecca Flora, Rachel Schaffer and Anna Schuster also won events for McDonogh. Pinckney, only a junior, reiterated the praise of her coach.

“We won as a team. Even the people who didn’t swim gave it their all in practice and added their support in the meet today,” said Pinckney. “To beat Mount de Sales, we knew we had to give it our all.”

McDonogh had its 51-meet win streak snapped two weeks earlier by Mount de Sales, but the Eagles rebounded to win the team title, thanks to Pinckney and her teammates.
