Every season there are teams with great potential, but not often does the ending play out like the dreams of the preseason. Mater Dei knew it had a chance to be special in 2008, and when all was said and done the Seraphs had accomplished something no other team in school history had. The Dickinson-led Seraphs won a share of the Shore Conference Class B Central division title, but there were better moments to come. They played a classic in the Monmouth County Tournament final, losing 1-0 to top-ranked Red Bank Catholic and earned the third seed for the Shore Conference Tournament. The Seraphs were eliminated early, but rebounded to win the first sectional title in school history, 1-0 over St. Joseph-Hammonton, which was New Jersey's No. 1 team at the time. They then completed the dream season by pounding three-time defending champion Montclair Kimberley Academy to capture the NJSIAA Non-Public B championship.
