When it comes to talking soccer at
Thomas Dale the first thing that comes into many minds is the boys varsity team.
Many people will mention the names of great players such as
Will Bates and
Patrick Innes, or talk about the fact that they are looking to win their third state title in four years.
Few bring up the girls varsity soccer team.
Emerging from the heavy shadow cast by the boys team, the Knights are making quite a name for themselves this season.
Thomas Dale made another strong statement in Tuesday night's home game as they defeated
Dinwiddie 9-0.
The Knights,
ranked fourth in the DigitalSports Top 10, are undefeated and have only allowed one goal this season. That came in their first match against Monacan.
It was all
Tiffany Vandecker in the first half, as it only took her 15 minutes to score a hat-trick and put the Knights up 3-0 on the Generals.
"I expect a lot this season," Vandecker said. "We have been doing really well so far and this is the first season since I have been on the team that we have won two non-district games."
The fourth goal of the half came off of a Thomas Dale corner kick, when senior midfielder
Loren Favale was able to crash the goal and finish the ball that was bouncing around the goal line.
In the second half, the Knights wasted no time tallying more goals.
Senior midfielder
Carrie Jaeckle started the scoring frenzy when her shot went through the hands of Dinwiddie goalkeeper
Alicia Allen and into the net putting the Knights up 5-0.
Favale scored her second goal of the evening just five minutes later, followed by another Vandecker goal to go up 7-0 on the Generals.
Junior midfielder
Kait Baker got involved as she finished her opportunity from the top of the six-yard box off of a beautiful cross from outside midfielder
Julie Robertson.
Jaeckle scored her second and the final goal of the match winning the game for Thomas Dale 9-0.
