The route toward an ILH Division II title must go through #9 Iolani again as the Raiders continue their strong season with a 48-17 victory over Pac-5 Friday night at Aloha Stadium. Iolani improves their record to 5-1, 3-0 in the ILH. The Wolfpack drop to 2-4 (0-3).
Jarrett Arakawa threw for 3 touchdowns, 2 of them to multi-talented Kela Marciel. Running back Kellen Imada added 3 scores on the ground for the balanced Raider attack.
The Raiders played dominant football in all phases of the game as they stormed out to a 41-3 lead at halftime. Special teams were also able to contribute with solid kick returns and a blocked punt.
Wolfpack quarterback P.J Minaya faced pressure for much of the evening and was without the services of leading receiver Darin Kamealoha who did not play.
7:30 pm St. Louis defeats Kamehameha-Kapalama 28-20 St. Louis Crusaders vs Kamehameha-Kapalama
Report by David Kawada dkawada@digitalsports.com
The impact of this game elevated significantly after the Crusaders were able to defeat previous #1 Punahou, thus vaulting them as the new #1 team in state. Friday night St Louis faced #3 Kamehameha at Aloha Stadium, with the Crusaders coming away with the 28 - 20 victory.
The game started with a bang as the Crusaders jumped ahead early as Trevor Mau caught a 42-yard strike from Jeremy Higgins for a 7-0 lead. Lucas Gonsalves then added another score,a 20-yard TD catch, and it seemed like St Louis would dominate the contest.
The 1st quarter would end with Kamehameha getting on the board as running back Ryan Ho scored on a 15 -yard run (kick failed). The Warriors added another touchdown in the 2nd quarter as Ho took it in from 6 yards. The 2-point conversion was good as the teams went into the locker room tied at 14.
The 3rd quarter saw both teams exchange touchdowns. Kamehameha struck first out of the locker room with quarterback Edmund Kamano, Jr, taking it in himself on a 1-yard sneak. The snap for the extra point was high and over the head of the holder.
St Louis answered with speedy Billy Stutzman getting behind the Warrior defensive backs for a 39-yard catch and score. The extra point allowed the Crusaders to reclaim the lead, 21-20, going into the final period.
The Crusader defense then got the first turnover of the game, as Laakea Frias intercepted Kamano, Jr on early in the 4th quarter.
Higgins marched the offense down the field to the Warrior 4 yard line. The Kamehameha defense stiffened, then on 4th and 2, Higgins connected with Billy Stutzman on the slant for the touchdown to extend the lead to 28-20.
Higgins had a career night , going 23 of 34 attempts for 325 yards and 3 touchdowns. Gonsalves was the leading receiver with 9 cathces and 135 yards and 1 TD.
Ryan Ho rushed for 113 yards and 2 scores for the Warriors.
