A total of 134 golfers representing 49 schools make up the field for the 72nd Annual IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals that begin Tuesday, June 10, at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin. Second-round play concludes the following day.
 
Twenty-one teams advanced five golfers each, and 29 individuals have moved on without their squads. Participants will tee off the Middle 9 course and the Road 9 course beginning at 8 a.m. ET Tuesday. Those teams and individuals that make the cut will return for a second day on Wednesday, with the first group again starting at 8 a.m. (See first-round pairings below!)
 
Only seven of last year’s Top 25 individuals return, but the top three players are among them, including defending state champion Tyler Duncan of Columbus North.
 
Duncan shot a state finals record for 18 holes on last year’s second day, torching the 6,736-yard course with nine birdies for a 63 and a two-round total of 136, one stroke off the state finals record. Only three individuals have ever won back-to-back state titles (Joe Campbell, Anderson, 1952, 1953; Ron Frantz, Indianapolis Broad Ripple, 1960, 1961; and Jeremy Wilkinson, South Bend Clay, 1994, 1995). Duncan shot a 72 to finish second June 6 at the Seymour Regional at Shadowood.
 
Also back are the last two runners-up – Adam Sumrall of No. 3 Mishawaka Marian, who finished one shot back of Duncan last year, and Chase Wright of Delta, the 2006 state runner-up. Sumrall fired a 72 to win the LaPorte Regional at Beechwood, while Wright shot 73 to win the Muncie Central Regional at The Players Club.
 
Bloomington South’s Kyle Perry, who finished third a year ago, has advanced with his team as well. Perry shot a 74 to help the Panthers win the team title at Seymour. No. 4 Bloomington South, which finished five strokes back last year for third place, is the highest-finishing team returning.
 
All of the top five teams from the most recent poll from the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association made it through regional play: top-ranked Avon, No. 2 Indianapolis Cathedral, Mishawaka Marian, Bloomington South, and No. 5 Wawasee.
 
Floyd Central, winner of the last two team titles, was unable to advance from the Seymour Regional.
