The St. Vincent Sports Medicine’s “Spirit of Sport” Athletic Recognition Dinner 2008 will take place Sunday, July 13, at the St. Vincent Marten House in Indianapolis, and HoosierAuthority.com will be there in large capacity to bring you all the highlights!
The guest speaker for the 5:30 p.m. ET ceremony will be Olympic gold medal gymnast Dominique Dawes. There are seven categories of awards for athletes, teams, coaches, student managers, and student trainers based on their integrity, wisdom, community service, and gifts, both in the classroom and on the field.
These awards are not necessarily for the best athlete, but the best individual. The list …
• Creativity – Comeback Athlete of the Year
o This person has come back from a setback to accomplish her or her personal best in a particular sport.
• Integrity – Coach of the Year
o This person maintains high levels of excellent and performance, leads by example, and sets moral standards as well as athletic goals.
• Wisdom – Scholar Athlete Award
o This person has accomplished high levels of excellence in the classroom as well as on the field and is well-respected by teachers, coaches, and peers.
• Dedication – Team of the Year
o This group has set a goal as a team and worked together to achieve it.
• Reverence – Spirit of Sport Memorial Award
o This person, though not necessarily a player on a team, dedicated himself or herself to improve the team with either special talents or unique gifts.
• Service to the Poor Award
o This person demonstrates a special gift to help those who are physically, emotionally, spiritually, or financially challenged.
• Spirit of Sport Award
o This person exemplifies all of the core values of St. Vincent Hospital, including service, reverence, integrity, wisdom, creativity, and dedication.
