10/10/08 - AHS JV Girls Soccer vs Long Reach High School...It was yet another high-scoring game for the AHS Girls JV soccer team. The Long Reach team seemed unprepared for the relentless attacks by the AHS offense/midfield as they were unable to prevent several thrusts into their danger zones. The temperature had dropped considerably from earlier in the afternoon when their sister team played on the same field. From the opening kickoff, the AHS offense took the fight to the opponent, pressing forward and opening attack lanes to direct several shots on goal. The first goal was scored by Megan Johnson on a cross from Tessa Scheckelhoff from the top of the eighteen. Tessa then scored the second goal from a rebound when the opponents goalie fumbled a shot on goal. Parisa Ayers placed the ball in the back of the net to score the third goal with a rocket of a shot from the left of the eighteen. That was a long, powerful shot from Parisa. The fourth goal was scored by Sarah Renehan with a well placed shot from the right of the eighteen that hit the inside of the far post. The fifth and final goal was scored by Christina Downs from a cross by Michelle Hart. Alex Fodel took a beautiful scorcher on goal, but didnt manage to find the back of the net. Mary Marshall also beat the defense on several occasions and took shots on goal, but it was one of those days when the ball had a mind of its own.
The entire team played very well. The offense and midfield created many scoring opportunities by using both the right and left wings to move the ball and get around the defense. The team also took many shots on goal with several of them on target. The defense managed the danger zone very well, intercepting many passes and preventing many penetrations from developing into scoring opportunities for the opponent. Our goalie, Kimiya made a beautiful save that definitely prevented a goal, allowing AHS to play another shut- out game.
AHS kicked 5 corners, 9 shots on goal, made 6 threats on the opponents goal.
DID YOU KNOW?
Advantage Clause A clause in the rules that gives the Referee the discretion to allow play to continue even after a foul has been committed if stopping play would unfairly punish the fouled team (e.g., if the fouled team had a breakaway & might score even after having been fouled). The idea is that the team which committed the foul should not gain an advantage as a result of the foul
