The first day of spring was cold, but the Hammond varsity baseball team did not let the temperature bother them as they posted a 9-0 win over the visiting Eagles of Centennial. In his first start in a Hammond uniform, Junior pitcher Danny Wissmann struck out 10 over 6 innings for the victory. The offense was led by Jared Christensen with 2 doubles and Joey Logan with 3 rbi. Travis Clark, Kevin McVicker, and Jeff Snyder each chipped in doubles of their own to help pace the offense. Dustin Stout, Kevin McVicker, and Matt Shiflett each contributed with unselfish sacrifice bunts with led to Bear rallies. Although it is only 1 victory in a long season, the win over Centennial was a nice way to start the season.
