Mentorship Program Purpose
To provide new athletic administrators beginning their careers in Washington State with an experienced, qualified, and confident mentor during the early stages of athletic administrative duties. Thereby, the goal of the mentor being to encourage and retain effectice, new athletic adminstrators for an extended career.
Timeline for Program Development:
October 1 - January 31, annually
WSSAAA Board creates a pool of experienced, qualified athletic administrators willing to commit to performing as mentors. Names to be collected via athletic districts.
February 1 - June 15, annually
All leagues and athletic districts would gather names of possible athletic administrator mentees and relay those names, phone numbers, and affiliated high schools to the WSSAAA Board for mentorship assignment.
Annual April Conference
Provide Mentorship Program Packets and instructional time for learning how to facilitate mentoring with new athletic administrator mentees.
Early August, Annually
First meetings between mentor and mentee. Make plans to meet regularly, set goals to reach, decide on points of discussion, review procedures, etc. Recommend two year commitment plan. Obviously, first year would require more intense focus with second year as primarily check-ins.
Mentorship Conclusion, End of 2nd Year
Conclude "official" mentorship duties and timeline. Meet to evaluate progress towards goals set at initial meeting. Submit name back to WSSAAA for the upcoming mentorship pool
