PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

Let me take this opportunity to say thanks for the chance to serve this great organization as president.  For those that don’t know me, I’m Dave Scheer from Union High School.  I am a 25 year head varsity baseball coach, a member of the MHSBCA since the mid 1980’s, a charter member of the BCA, and a long time member of the ABCA.  I have chaired a couple of different committees in the MHSBCA and been a Class 3 Vice-President.  Although I’m not currently coaching baseball,  I am staying connected to the “game” by coaching softball at Union, helping broadcast local high school baseball games and, most importantly, being involved in this award-winning coaching association.

It has been amazing to see how this organization has evolved over the years!  It has been led by some great presidents too numerous to mention here.  However, I would like to thank our outgoing president Andy Jackson of Kirksville High School for the tremendous job he did for the past 2 years.  His leadership was a big part in the MHSBCA receiving the prestigious JEM award from the BCA for the last two years.

In just the last month, I have witnessed some hard working people doing some great things for our organization.  Mike Hunt from Eureka High School is the head of our Legislative Committee and was a voice for us at the recent MSHSAA baseball advisory meeting.  Josh Hayes (and wife Jen) did another outstanding job with the Senior All-Star Series.  I had a number of member coaches help select the 2009 All-State teams.  And though I did not see the games, our Sunbelt people, Eric Briggs of Bolivar High School, Andy Jackson of Kirksville High School, and Richard Wood of Blue Springs South High School did a great job again this year with the Missouri team.  Of course, I must mention our executive director Bill Seamon and our executive secretary Janet Seamon.  They are instrumental in the workings of this organization and I intend to lean on them often.

Those were just some examples of the work so many of our members did recently for the MHSBCA.  There are many more members I didn’t mention (but I will throughout the year) that do so much for this organization.  I invite all of you to get involved in some way.  There are a number of committees that can always use some help-check out the web site for the names of the committees and their chairman.  Or you could do something as simple as getting a non-member to join the association.  Our membership numbers are strong but we can still do better.  Talk to your fellow coaches who are not members about joining one of the best baseball coaches associations in America, the MHSBCA.

Once again, it is an honor to lead this organization for the next two years.  If I can be of help to you in any way, don’t hesitate to contact me.  This is far from a one man effort so I hope to see many of you involved in some way.  I look forward to working with you as we continue to promote high school baseball in Missouri and make the MHSBCA one of the top coaching organizations in the country.

Yours in baseball,

Dave Scheer
