The Ben Eaton, Sr.Championship Award:Several area high school programs enjoyed noteworthy success during the 2007 football season. With two teams from our chapter area winning their state championship game (1A Dunbar, and 2A champions River Hill), and two others getting to the championship game (2A Eastern Tech and 3A Hereford) it proved to be a banner season for the Greater Baltimore region.
It was also a tragic season for one of those teams, with the sudden passing of Dunbar Head Football Coach Ben Eaton, Sr. on August 27, 2007. Coach Eaton represented the best in what coaches strive to be as a competitor, mentor, leader, coach and counselor, so much so that the Baltimore Chapter of the National Football Foundation decided to rename its team Special Achievement Award “The Ben Eaton Sr. Championship Award,” in honor of his legacy.
