In search of a berth in the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions, Wall's Greg Mergel (pictured) and Central's Al Bruno took to the links at Running Deer Golf Club in Pittsgrove for the Central/South Jersey Group III Tournament. The 6,800-yard course filled with treacherous hazards and brutal pin locations had plenty of golfers shaking their heads, including both Mergel and Bruno. The two each carded 82s and missed the top-five cut for the TOC. However, Ocean's Chris Cerven built on his solid showing at the Shore Conference Tournament to shoot a 78, good for third and a trip to next Monday's TOC. At other sites, Middletown South's Mike Flaim, Manasquan's Sam Gordon and Rumson-Fair Haven's KJ Mazurek each qualified for the TOC.
