DEFINITIONS The term “User Generated Content” has been used to refer to various kinds of media content (text, photo, and video, audio) that are produced by end users (as opposed to traditional media producers such as professional writers, publishers, journalists, licensed broadcasters and production companies). New forms of “User Generated Content” began to emerge in 2005, reflecting the entrance by new technologies and devices that are available to the public as a whole. Examples include: digital video, blogging, podcasting, news, mobile phone photos and more. In general, the “User Generated Content” experience offers the consumer an opportunity for sharing their knowledge and content they may have captured. Unfortunately, as is often the case in new technology or ideas, negative elements have invaded the “User Generated Content” experience, leading to criticism or troubling activity. Some examples:
