Honorable Mentions (in no order):
Lee Highway
Whitman senior catcher Danny Lee crushes a two-run homer an estimated 390 feet towards Rt. 29 — named Lee Highway in Virginia — in a 17-7
win over Paint Branch. Lee the catcher went 4-for-5 on the day and
hit his only home run of last season at the same field, but just to the
right.
Makowski Winner — Pachuca FC USA International striker Christopher Makowski (Faith Christian Academy; Sellersville, Pa.) scores a late goal to beat D.C. United Academy 2-1 in the Tiffany Cup international soccer Group 1, opening-round game.
Dodson Clutch — Landon junior midfielder Austin Dodson scores the game’s first goal
with :10.7 seconds left in the first quarter as the Bears beat IAC rival
St. Albans, 5-1.
Stearn Warning — It’s the second inning and Patuxent is already up on Leonardtown, 5-2, despite troubles at the plate — and when you’re doing things
like this, you can get away with that. Panther senior Matt Stearns crosses the plate
on the tail end of the double steal to make it 6-2 Panthers.
White Jack’et — Osbourn Park senior Nate White hits a three-run bomb in the third
inning of the Let’s Play Two Tournament third-place game. White had 4
RBI and the Yellow jackets dominated, 11-0.
Ryan Mink at House of Speed — Click here to watch full-grown man — and DigitalSports correspondent — Ryan Mink get worked in speed drills by elementary-school children.

No. 10 –– Brothers Keepers
Twisted Bixler
Tiffany Cup — In a Group 2 match between Great Falls Elite and Freestate Soccer Alliance, GFA goalkeeper Mark Bixler (Hidden Valley; Roanoke, Va.) comes up big with this save — and hold — off a Freestate corner in GFA’s 2-0 win.

Won’t Be Fooled Again
Lancashire County, England
— Blackburn Rovers FC goalkeeper Matthew Urwin punches away this well-placed volley by U.S. National Team pool player and Great Falls Elite striker Dylan Bowman (James River; Midlothian, Va.) in the 13th minute. Rovers beat GFA, 2-0, but fell to Real Madrid CF in the final, 3-0.

No. 9 –Swearing In
S.M.A.C., Maryland
— At the plate, Leonardtown senior Cody Towles flies out to Patuxent senior Mike Swearingen in right field. As Raider Brady Jameson — who had just hit an RBI triple — tries to score from third, Swearingen’s throw beats him to the plate for a momentum-grabbing, inning-ending out.

No. 8 — Lundeen Trifecta
Northern Region, Virginia
— Langley junior attack Jack Lundeen scores a trio of goals at the Saxons improve to 8-0 for the first time in school history with their 6-5 win over Loudoun Valley.

No. 7 –Fortes Bragg

Northern Region, Virginia
— South Lakes senior Quintin Fortes launches the discus 163 feet at the No Frills Invitational at Lake Braddock on April 8. His personal record throw beat the state championship distance in four of the last nine years.

No. 6 –Vieira Riding Dirty
Prince William County, Virginia
— In the Let’s Play Two Tournament title game, Potomac sophomore Kyle Vieira shows some shiftiness in the base paths with this face-first slide across the plate. There is more available from this game further in the countdown.

No. 5 –Schu’ In
Northern Region, Virginia
— Annandale junior Ryan Schubert went 3-for-5 at the plate, including a two-run double and two-run triple, finishing with 5 RBI. Atom reliever also entered a high-scoring game, allowing no runs and no hits in 1.1 IP as Annandale beat Mount Vernon, 15-10.

No. 4 –Technicolor Dream Coates  1  2
Prince George’s County, Maryland  — In the underclassmen game of the Capitol Hoops DMV Jamboree at Roosevelt High School, Gwynn Park sophomore Tion Coates held his own private dunk contest in the all-star game with an array of high-flying jams.

No. 3 –Robinson Pays Homage
Prince William County, Virginia
— “Mr. Cub” Ernie Banks, a Baseball Hall of Fame member and lifelong Chicago Cub, coined the phrase “Let’s Play Two.” In the tournament bearing the same name, Woodbridge senior LF Josh Robinson makes a Gold-Glove caliber diving catch. But Potomac went on to win, 7-5.

No. 2 –Isaiah 40:
Independent Schools, D.C. — Isaiah 40:31 says, “… They will bear you up on wings like eagles…” Montrose Christian senior Isaiah Armwood showed that kind of ornithological altitude —  a 40-inch vertical — by jumping over seven people in the Capital Classic Dunk Contest at Gonzaga. Armwood’s dunk was named No. 1 in the SportsCenter Top 10 on Thursday.

No. 1 — Perfect Mitch
S.M.A.C., Maryland — McDonough senior Melanie Mitchell threw a perfect game against Thomas Stone on Wednesday. Mitchell struck out 16 of the 21 batters she faced as the still-undefeated Rams beat the previously-undefeated Cougars, 9-0. When McDonough freshman Kelsea Morris was asked what the key was to the Rams’ 7-0 start, she answered, “Melanie pitching.”
